Organisation: Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture
Name of Exhibition: RUFORUM
RUFORUM is a consortium of 85 Universities in 35 countries in sub-Saharan Africa with a mission to strengthen the capacities of universities to foster innovations responsive to demands of smallholder farmers through the training of high quality researchers, the output of impact oriented research and the maintenance of collaborative working relations among researchers, farmers, national agricultural research institutions and governments. RUFORUM also has collaborating partners beyond its member universities through the inclusion of students from several countries in the Network’s regional PhD and MSc programmes. An MOU with the Africa Union Commission, signed in 2014, mandated the Network to facilitate and coordinate higher education in agriculture, and its relationship to science, technology and innovation on the continent.
RUFORUM recognises the importance of interaction among the diversity of actors in Agricultural Tertiary Education as a vehicle for effective innovation and knowledge generation for the development of the agricultural sector. The Science Forum platform hosted in South Africa 2017 will provide opportunities to RUFORUM 1) show case innovative models by African agricultural university in championing agricultural transformation 2) sharing of best practices and reforms within the higher education sector;
RUFORUM network is positioned as a “reference point for agricultural research and higher education in agriculture in Africa” as stated in its Theory of Change; facilitating the generation, exchange and sharing of knowledge Africa-wide. It encourages diffusion of scientific knowledge and technologies to the public for possible adoption in order to enhance agricultural development.
