Dr Glenda Kruss

Dr Glenda Kruss is the deputy executive director and head of the Centre for Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators at the Human Sciences Research Council. She is a skilled facilitator with wide experience of conceptualising and moderating multi-stakeholder policy roundtables, bringing together policy makers, researchers and practitioners. She has conducted research mapping how universities and public research institutes link with firms, how they build their capabilities to interact with marginalised communities to diffuse STI to enhance livelihood opportunities, as well as on IID strategy and STI policy. She is leading research to develop new STI measures and indicators in the South African context. She has organised a number of national and regional research and policy workshops on higher education, public research institutes, innovation and development, to bridge the research-policy nexus.

Godfrey Mashamba

Mr. Godfrey Mashamba is with the Department of Science and Technology, South Africa. Among other responsibilities, he oversees the production of national surveys of research and development (R&D) and innovation statistics; and administers the R&D tax incentive to promote private sector R&D investment in South Africa.

Lwandle Simelane

Lwandle Simelane is a Senior Science officer in the Department of Research, Science, Technology and Innovation; with the mandate of coordinating Science, Technology and Innovation incentives and strengthening the National Systems of Innovation in the Kingdom of Eswatini. She holds a degree and a Master’s degree in Biotechnology from the University of Johannesburg. In her time with the Department of RSTI; she has been part of the team that pioneered the Research and Development and Innovation survey which will be published in the Third edition Africa innovation outlook; the drafting of the National chapter for Women in Science, Engineering and Technology (WISET); and the Kingdom of Eswatini Academy of Sciences (KEAS).

Mr Joseph Raj Xavier

Mr. Joseph Raj Xavier, have recently been appointed as the Principal Research Officer- Innovation of the National Institute of Science, Technology & Innovation (NISTI). To assist Innovation and Entrepreneurship and supervising researchers with regard to implementation of policy, plans, and procedure regarding development and entrepreneurial opportunities in technology and innovation for the achievement of the institute goals and objectives.

His academic background is in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering. He is a Master Degree holder in Manufacturing Engineering. He attended the Saveetha University, India and B S Abdur Rahman University, India.

Some of the projects that he has undertaken are “Solar Powered Bicycle” and “Design, Fabrication and Testing of Solar Powered Car” and this project was published in the “Education Insider” magazine on September 2013.

In the field of Manufacturing Engineering, he worked “Design and Fabrication of Stirrer Set Up in a Stir Casting Process” and “Fatigue Analysis of PVD Coated Mild Steel Using Rotary Bending Test”.

Ms Anneline Morgan

Ms Morgan is currently seconded to the SADC Secretariat as the Senior Technical Advisor: Science, Technology and Innovation, where she is responsible for facilitating and coordinating regional STI policies, strategies and programmes in support of the SADC Member States. Prior to her Secondment she held the position of Director: Africa Cooperation at the South African, Department of Science and Technology, where she was responsible for managing international engagements and partnerships with African countries in the area of science and technology. Ms Morgan has been instrumental in championing regional cooperation in the area of science, technology and innovation, which has resulted in the initiation of several regional programmes.

Norton Titus

Is chairperson of the Board of the National Commission on Research, Science and Technology (NCRST) in Namibia. He is a Chief Geoscientist on the national Geological Survey,based at the Ministry of Mines and Energy, Namibia.
