SFSA 2016 was proudly hosted by the South African Department of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI) from 8 to 9 December 2016, in Pretoria, South Africa.
Programme overview
The event marked Africa’s second major “open science” forum, building on the success of similar gatherings held across the globe. The 2016 Forum programme featured 36 lively discussions and nearly 30 Science Talks, drawing over 2,000 participants from more than 60 countries. Close to 70 exhibitors from 24 countries also showcased their work.
Beyond the main venue, the Forum week included more than 20 side events. Two Science on the Street outreach events were held, reaching over 2,000 school learners. Media coverage, both national and international, along with an active social media presence, helped spark broader conversations about science. These dynamic engagements opened the door to many future collaborations and opportunities.
