SFSA 2018 was proudly co-hosted by the South African Department of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI) together with the African Academy of Sciences (AAS) from 12 to 14 December 2018, in Pretoria, South Africa. 

Overview

The Forum took place over two and a half days, with the opening event held at the University of Pretoria’s Rembrandt Hall. The remainder of the Forum was held at the CSIR International Convention Centre in Pretoria. There were 4,000 registered participants from 88 countries. The Forum provided a platform for engagement through 94 different debates, panels, and talks. Among the speakers, more than 20% were youth (under 35 years of age). There were at least 131 international speakers, including 79 from other African countries. 73 Exhibitors showcased the National System of Innovation and international partnerships. Of these exhibitors, 38% were international partners and 13% focused on youth.

Theme

The theme for the Forum was Igniting Conversations About Science.
